According to CERVANTES

BEHIND THE MADNESS, UTOPIA

ALL AUDIENCES

With this Don Quixote, we leap through time, moving from the 17thth century and its already outdated chivalric world to the 20th century in a Spain where the Civil War is taking hold. While men of letters are viewed as potential subversives, Alonso Quichano, a literature professor, has found refuge in Madame Petit’s famous brothel—the last bastion of freedom—as a wind of repression blows outside. Employed as a janitor, he reads banned books to the brothel’s residents. However, the tragic events shaking society threaten to penetrate even his refuge, and Alonso—guided solely by his legendary courage—is knighted by the brothel’s madam and, as a true champion of justice, sets out on an adventure to combat intolerance and injustice.

And what does it matter if the enemy is nothing more than a fan, and the gentle ladies are women of the night? Must utopia disguise itself as madness to set us free? Is naivety the best way to escape evil?

media coverage

-The Echoes-

The Press

“The staging and choreography (…) are incredibly rich. (…) It’s spectacular! (…) Normand D’Amour brings great emotion to this iconic role. He’s a solid actor, born to shine on stage (…)”

sorstu.ca

“It’s rare for a show to strike such a perfect balance between comedy, seriousness, and emotion. The play keeps us engaged throughout its 85 minutes. That’s the beauty of a show that doesn’t overdo it and is far from pretentious.”

bpartsmedia.ca

“Quichotte offers a spirited reinterpretation of Cervantes’ masterpiece (…) A bold work that captivates as much with its flamboyant imagination as with the power of its message. (…)”
