The characters

SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE SIGN OF THE FOUR

"Life is strange. Sometimes things happen that even the most inventive minds can't imagine. And yet... these are only common phenomena, accidents, adventures that, through a few complications, become misadventures and inconveniences. There is an artistic choice in reality, for life is the theater of the unpredictable."

A WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR

-Theatrical brilliance-

"Indeed, I need art and staging. My profession would be very gray if we did not reveal gestures by a certain theatrical brilliance." Sherlock Holmes (Sir Conan Doyle, The Valley of Fear)

It was when I read this short sentence in the novel Valley of Fear that it all clicked. Sherlock Holmes is not only a larger-than-life character, he's in the same business as the rest of us. A genius director and skilled actor, the theater is part of his investigations. But what if Sherlock Holmes no longer had complete control over the staging of his own show? That's the question I asked myself... and still do!
